Accessibility Statement

nvil.co is built to be used by everyone. Here is what we do, where we still fall short, and how to reach us when something is in your way.

Our commitment. NVIL wants everyone to be able to use nvil.co, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, voice control, or reduced motion. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and when something falls short, we fix it or offer another way to get the same information.

Accessibility options

Larger text, high contrast, reduced motion, underlined links, a plainer font, wider spacing, a stronger focus outline, and a dark or light theme. Your choices are saved on this device and apply to every page. The same panel opens from the red Accessibility button in the bottom left corner of every page.

What we do

  • Semantic HTML with proper headings, landmarks, lists, and labelled form fields, so assistive technology can read the structure.
  • Everything works with a keyboard: visible focus outlines, a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page, and no keyboard traps.
  • Text alternatives on meaningful images; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
  • Colour contrast that meets AA in both the dark and light themes, and a theme toggle so you can pick the one that reads better for you.
  • Text that scales to 200% and layouts that reflow on small screens without horizontal scrolling.
  • Animation that respects your system's "reduce motion" setting. With it on, the site's entrance and background effects are turned off.
  • No content that flashes more than three times a second.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site are inherently visual or interactive, and we are honest about where they fall short today:

  • The Lab Arcade. The games are drawn on a canvas and rely on timing, sight, and fast input. They do not have a screen reader equivalent.
  • NVIL Trades charts and simulators. The lessons are readable text, but the live charts and practice simulators are visual. Each lesson explains the idea in words as well, and the quizzes are standard forms.
  • NVIL Blueprint. The architecture sheet is a drawing. Every result is also presented as a text summary (pages, systems, path, starting point) on the same screen, and the exported PNG has no text alternative.
  • PDF exports from the audit tools may not be fully tagged.

If any of these stops you from getting something you need, contact us and we will provide the information in another form, for example by email or over the phone.

If you hit a barrier anywhere on nvil.co, we want to know. Email contact@nvil.co or call (773) 355-0592. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will get back to you within five business days and work on a fix.

How we check

We test with automated tools (axe-core) in both themes, review keyboard navigation and screen reader output by hand, and check new features before they ship. This statement was last reviewed on September 21, 2026.
